I had a spring line broken and causing flooding. Jeremiah assessed the situation. The spring house and line had to be cleaned, and part of the line had to be replaced. Both were accomplished efficiently and professionally. Jeremiah took the time to ensure the fix would be sufficient for the amount of water coming into the spring. I appreciate him going the extra mile. Very happy with the completed work. Thanks so much, Highly recommend this company.

From the recptionist who answered the phone to the plumber who came to the house, they were positive, upbeat and informative. A quick response to a clogged toilet was greatly appreciated. Then add the quick fix, willingness to explain what was causing the issues and ways to avoid them in the future and our opinion of the company only improved. Thank you very much.

Miguel did an awesome job! He was very knowledgeable and professional. The whole experience was great! I feel so good knowing I can call trustworthy plumbers with reasonable prices. Edit: I called on Top Notch plumbing again yesterday (10/2/23) because I was afraid my garbage disposal was broken and wanted a quote for a new faucet and sprayer. They responded in less than 24 hours! Scotty showed up this morning on time, and was very courteous and respectful! He was able to quickly diagnose and fix the disposal, and replaced my faucet and sprayer in under an hour! You just cannot get better service and fair prices! I honestly cannot say enough good things about them! It is such a great feeling knowing you have a company you can count on when things go wrong! Edit #2 11/8/23 I called Top Notch again because this time my garbage disposal really was broken. Scotty came out again and was very respectful, on time, and prepared. He had a new unit with him and was able to instal it so quickly and efficiently. The entire visit was less than 30 min. Again, I cannot say enough about this company. It means so much to have a reliable plumber!!!

How to Prevent Frozen Pipes

When frozen pipes thaw out, and burst, the effects can be devastating for homeowners. Structural damage, mold growth, and displacement often happen afterward, not to mention the financial burden of cleanup and burst pipe repair. The good news is that freezing water can be prevented:

Trickling

On extremely cold nights, allowing faucets to drip a little can relieve pressure and prevent frozen or burst pipes by keeping water moving constantly.

Insulation

Insulate exposed pipes with foam or fiberglass sleeves. This provides a protective barrier against extreme temperatures. Pay special attention to water supply lines in unheated areas, such as crawl spaces, attics, and garages. Don’t forget about unheated basements with washing machine plumbing hooked up exposed to the cold.

Prepare for Absences

If you plan to be away from home for an extended period during cold weather, consider draining your plumbing system and shutting off the main water supply to prevent burst pipes. Or, you can keep a constant slow trickle of water going to prevent stagnant water from freezing.

Interior Temperatures

Maintain a consistent indoor temperature, even when you’re away from home. Set your thermostat no lower than 55 degrees Fahrenheit (12 degrees Celsius) during cold weather. Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate, heating pipes on exterior walls.

We have years of experience responding to weather-related pipe issues and damage, including water cleanup and restoration, and providing repair services to our customers across the Front Range.

How to Minimize Broken Pipe Damage

Staying vigilant about maintaining your water and sewage systems is critical – especially in the Northern Colorado winter. One obvious sign that something may be wrong with your plumbing systems is that water doesn’t run out of a faucet when turned on, typically the first sign of a frozen pipe, which may already be causing leaks.

To minimize the impact of burst piping, first, turn off the main water line for your house or commercial building to halt the intake of additional water. Next, inspect visible plumbing and water lines for breakage or leaky pipes to identify the frozen area. If you find a leaking pipe, place a bucket beneath it to prevent water damage from spreading. For comprehensive plumbing services in Greeley, whether it’s an emergency or a scheduled appointment, call our team at Top Notch Plumbing today.

4 Common Pipe Problems

1. Pipe Channeling

Aging pipes (25 years +) are the common culprits of frozen pipe problems. Over time, the constant pressure of water moving through the pipes and slow chemical interactions wear them out. If left unattended, it may cause sewer line blockages and structural damage underneath homes and driveway areas.

2. Burst Pipes

If the plumbing architecture is poorly designed, frozen areas expand, or the hot summer sun weakens piping, this can result in a burst pipe.

3. Frozen Pipes

Frozen water expands as it melts. Metal pipes can’t expand. The temperature changes cause serious damage to plumbing, which is why prevention and inspection service from a licensed plumber is so important.

4. Water Hammer

Sudden shifts in water flow or direction can lead to a phenomenon known as “water hammer,” which can result in various problems for your plumbing system, including vibrations, shaking, and annoying noises. Additionally, if your water pressure is too high or if your pipes are faulty or not securely fastened, you may be more susceptible to experiencing this issue.
